In Zimbabwe, drones—officially referred to as Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA)—must be registered with the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) before they can be operated. CAAZ states that all flying drones must be registered, with the current regulations not making a general distinction for “toys.”
How Does Drone Registration Work in Zimbabwe?
The registration process is handled through CAAZ. Applicants can apply as individuals or organisations through the CAAZ online services portal. You will generally need identification, proof of ownership and important drone details such as the manufacturer, model, serial number, weight, category and intended purpose. Proof of purchase is mandatory for individual applications.
CAAZ also states that a drone cannot be registered without a letter of approval from the Authority, and a drone may not be operated in Zimbabwe unless it has been registered.
